This is a high-skill welding role requiring confidence and proven ability with 5/32" 6011 and 1/8" 7018 electrodes. Candidates must be able to pass a practical weld test and be ready to work in a demanding marine repair environment.
Job Description:
- As a Stick Welder specializing in barge repair on the Mississippi River waterfront in Hartford, IL, you will be responsible for performing welding operations using 5/32" 6011 rod and 5/32" 7018 rod to pass vertical up and overhead lap welds on 3/8" plate.
- Your primary tasks will include executing precise and consistent welds, adhering to quality standards, and ensuring weld continuity and consistency on barge repair projects.
- Successful candidates must demonstrate proficiency in welding techniques, including vertical up and overhead lap welds, while meeting visual inspection criteria for weld quality, continuity, and consistency.
- Working collaboratively with a team of welders, fabricators, and repair specialists, you will contribute to the structural integrity and functionality of barges on the Mississippi River waterfront.
- This role demands attention to detail, adherence to welding standards, and the ability to produce high-quality welds with no undercut to ensure the durability and safety of repaired barges.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Stick Welder proficient in 5/32" 6011 & 1/8'' 7018 stick electrodes on carbon steel in lap weld positions 3F(up)and 4F.
- Expertise in welding techniques, visual inspection standards, and quality control measures for barge repair projects.
- Knowledge of safety protocols, welding procedures, and best practices for welding in maritime environments.
- Strong teamwork skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues to achieve project objectives.
- Must have recent experience with:
- 5/32" 6011
- 1/8" 7018
- Must be able to pass a lap weld test in:
- 3F Uphill
- 4F Position
- Experience in barge repair or similar heavy structural welding is preferred.
- Working Days: Monday–Saturday, overtime available
