Boiler Mechanic

Join the United States Antarctic Program (USAP) and support critical research operations at the bottom of the world. As a Seasonal Boiler Mechanic with the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC), you'll play a vital role maintaining and repairing the heating and boiler systems that keep Antarctic stations operational in one of the planet's most extreme environments.

What You'll Do

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain steam, hydronic, and hot water boiler systems
• Perform preventive maintenance on boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, air handlers, furnaces, valves, and controls
• Monitor and repair fuel systems, boiler controls, and heating infrastructure
• Inspect, test, commission, and start up new equipment
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, and technical specifications
• Respond to emergency maintenance issues as needed
• Document work performed and maintain maintenance records
• Collaborate with multiple departments to support station operations
• Maintain compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards

• High School Diploma or GED
• 4+ years of experience maintaining and repairing boiler systems and hydronic/steam HVAC systems
• Experience working with commercial, industrial, or residential boiler systems
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of LOTO procedures, confined space safety, PPE, and risk assessment practices
• Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and manufacturer documentation
• Valid U.S. Driver's License
• Steam Boiler Operation/Maintenance Certification
• ASSE 19210 Hydronic Heating & Cooling Certification
• Experience with Maximo or other CMMS platforms
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Experience in remote, industrial, or extreme-environment operations
• Ability to work in extreme cold, high winds, and challenging outdoor conditions
• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing, and extended periods on your feet
• Willingness to deploy to Antarctica for an extended seasonal assignment
• Ability to successfully complete NSF-required medical, dental, background, and drug screening requirements
