Job Description
Tradesmen International is immediately hiring experienced Marine Shipfitters for a project in Newport News, VA. Full-time opportunity at up to $45/hour plus $140/day per diem for travelers 75+ miles from the job site.
Job Scope:
- Multi-pass tack welding
- Air Carbon Arc Gouging
- Operating burning-oxygen/propane and heating-oxygen/propane torches
- Reading and comprehending complex structural assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches
- Laying out piece parts for fabrication and assembly
- Assembling structural piece parts in accordance with specifications
- Using vibratory tools, grinders, and needle guns
- Working from packages and drawings to plan and execute work
- Erecting, setting, and making up complex-shaped shell plates and deck bulkheads
- Installing and replacing hull inserts and penetrations
- Installing miscellaneous and complex foundations
Requirements
- US citizen documents required
- Must pass background check and hair follicle screening
- Proficient in torch cutting and burning operations
- Must pass various weld tests
- Must accurately read and interpret a tape measure
- Minimum 3 years of shipfitter experience required
- Must wash off old welds from steel plates without gouging or damaging the base metal
- Ability to trim and fit steel for butt weld applications
- Strong understanding of marine fabrication and shipyard safety practices preferred
- Ability to comprehend fractional dimensions with the use of a ruler
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations relative to the shipbuilding industry
